The Dialectical Relationship between Strategic Studies and International Relations and Its Impact on the Dynamics of International Politics: A Theoretical and Applied Study

Abstract

Research Idea: This research analyzes the relationship between strategic studies and international relations in terms of mutual influence and the extent of integration and differentiation between the two fields. It examines their interconnectedness within political science and their role in explaining international politics, understanding state behavior, and analyzing the dynamics of conflict and cooperation.


Objective: The research aims to examine the theoretical and analytical debate surrounding the relationship between strategic studies and international relations, viewing them as overlapping fields that contribute to understanding international interactions and the balance of power in the international system.


Methodology: The research employs a historical approach to trace the development of the two fields, a comparative approach to identify areas of integration and interaction, and a case study approach to link theory with practice across different real-world contexts. It also adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to examine the phenomenon under study and draw conclusions.


Results: The findings indicate that the relationship between strategic studies and international relations is complementary and deeply interconnected, with strategic studies deriving a significant part of its conceptual foundations from realist and neorealist theories of international relations.


Conclusion: The research concludes that structural transformations in the international system, particularly changes in the balance of power and the growing diversity of international actors, have contributed to greater convergence between the analytical tools and approaches of the two fields, despite continuing theoretical and methodological differences. It recommends developing integrated approaches that combine both fields to enhance the explanatory and predictive capacity of international relations analysis and improve understanding of the dynamics of interaction among political units.
